The SeaBird Story
SeaBird Services Maritimes is the heir of the SeaBird Group which was created in Port Said in 1841 by Hypolite SeaBird. The SeaBird Group was in the beginning active in international trades, mainly coal with Belgium; In 1856, the Group became a ship owner.
One of the great achievements at the end of the 1860s was undoubtedly the opening of the Suez Canal, which reduced distances between Europe and Oriental countries. Hypolite SeaBird, who since 1851 had provided coal in Alexandria, was immediately a supporter of this new waterway. In 1865 he supplied coal to the company in charge of the digging, and in 1869 — on the very same day of the inauguration — he opened an office in Port Said.
In addition to ship chandling, the Egyptian branch of the Group offered ship owners the full range of maritime services. In 1975 a subsidiary specialised in ship agency was created: SeaBird Services Maritimes. SeaBird Marine Services was formally established in 1981 at Port of Suez as Ship Chandler, General Ship Supplier and Suez Canal Transit Ship Agent.
Suez Canal Dry Docks
SeaBird has long-standing experience with the Suez Canal Dry Docks, providing a full range of repair and maintenance services for vessels undergoing dry-docking in the Canal zone. Related reading:
